Meet Jinky, a Nursing Aide, at Pertapis Centre for Women & Girls (PCWG). She ensures that the residents at PCWG are well taken care of and medicine is administered to the residents accordingly.
Q & A with Jinky
What is your role and how did you find way to your current role at Pertapis?
I am currently a Nursing Aide at Pertapis Centre for Women & Girls (PCWG). I am happy and grateful to be a part of Pertapis for the past 4 years. I found my way to my current role in Pertapis because of my passion and eagerness to pursue what my heart really desire.
What does a typical day at work look like for you?
A typical work day for me involves handling the residents’ daily schedules. The residents confide in me about anything, some things are common but sometimes, the unexpected happens. But as a Nursing Aide and as a woman, I need to acknowledge and find solutions to their issues and problems.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
I like that in my role, the learning never stops. I learn something new all the time. It adds on to my experience and knowledge. I also like spending time with the residents outside of the Home, when we get to have outings like camp, dragon boat, kayaking and beach day. These are the times I can bond and build rapport with them.
Is there anything about your role that you find challenging and how do you overcome those challenge?
There are many challenges related to this role but for me, it is how you handle and find solutions for each challenge I face. I follow this quote closely, “We don’t grow when things are easy, we grow when we face challenges”.
How would you describe the team and environment at Pertapis?
PCWG values team work. The whole team is respectful to everyone regardless of race and religion. The environment is very positive and lively. We start our days with warm greetings like “good morning” and “how are you” and personally, that is the best way to start the day.
What would you be doing if you were not in this role?
I do not think I will pursue anything different. This has been a dream of mine for a long time and I would not want to change it.
What is something most people don’t know about you?
Probably the fact that I am comfortable spending time with myself. I enjoy catching a movie alone at the cinema then grabbing some coffee after. It makes me happy.
