Welfare Trust Fund The PERTAPIS Welfare Trust Fund caters for the aged, the destitute and other needy families and individuals. Since its establishment twelve years ago, thousands of people under this category have benefited from the scheme. Presently, 350 people are receiving monthly assistance by way of household provisions, such as rice, sugar, cooking oil, beverages, etc, including some cash. There are more than 500 cases on the waiting list.

Who are our recipients?

33% are senior citizens whose children do not have the means to support them. 30% suffers from chronic illness such as diabetes, kidney failure, and heart failure and/or handicapped either they are blind and disabled. Another 21% are single parents due to divorce, death, or incarceration. The remaining 16% are recipients who were retrenched or waiting for employment.

Duration of assistance The senior citizens, the chronic and handicapped cases and single parents will be assisted as long as they are unable to support themselves, while the other categories are given assistance up to 6 months or longer with 3 or 6 months extension.

Expenses

We have to ensure sufficient funds to purchase the monthly household provisions and we channel the zakat we received for this purpose. ( Zakat is one of the five pillars of Islam. Giving regular zakat is mentioned many times in the Al Quran, indicating that the act is as important as the five daily prayers. Muslims who fulfill this duty have been promised abundant rewards in this world and hereafter. )
