Welcome!
At PERTAPIS we engage in self-help projects for the betterment of the community's welfare in Singapore.
As an approved charitable organization with the status of an Institution of Public Character (IPC), we aim to reach out and help the community in line with our vision: "The Best we can be in the Service to the Community"
The PERTAPIS Centre for Women and Girls was established in 1990 and gazetted as a Place of Safety under the Women’s charter and an Approved Home under the probation of Offenders Act. It provides residential care for troubled teens and also an approved centre to provide temporary shelter to abused wives and women in crisis. Cases referred to the centre includes women under the Protection Order, beyond parental control as order by the court and young women charged for a minor offence and admitted by the Court.
At PERTAPIS Centre for Women and Girls, we hold regular activities for the parents to help them develop positive relationship with the child/ward and to acquire positive parenting skills. They are encouraged to participate in the parenting seminars, family conferences and counseling sessions. Rapport and sense of family belonging between the girls and parents are strengthened through weekly / monthly visits.
Our Programmes
Most of our residents attend full time study at mainstream schools. As such, Educational Programme is the main programme of the Centre which includes “The Back to School Programme” and “In-house Tuition Programme”. Our Programme also focuses on the acquisitioning of life skills such as hairdressing, dress making and others.
We do conduct programmes that deal with the specific risks and needs of the young residents. They include Conflict Resolution through peer mediation, Health and Wellness Programme, Creative Arts, Home Economics, “It’s My Life – Sexuality Programme”, Smoking Cessation Programme and other enrichment programmes.
Our Appeal
We need volunteers to help and be part of our programmes such as Befriend Programme, Foster Family Programme and many others. Alternatively, you may wish to volunteer in organising and / or joining in excursions for our residents.
We also need help from donors and sponsors to sustain the operational cost of our programmes, maintenance of the infrastructure and support services we provided. Therefore we appeal to you once again for donations, no matter how small, to allow us continue to fulfill all aspects of our services to the girls in need.
